HOPE Scholars
HOPE Scholars is a student success program that promotes college access, persistence, completion, and transfer for students facing barriers to higher education, including first-generation college students and those from low-income backgrounds. Through faculty mentoring, tutoring, leadership development, university tours, the nationally recognized BBCB and community engagement, students receive the support needed to achieve academic and career success.
Since its inception seven years ago, 262 students have graduated from the program with a 100% transfer rate to four-year institutions. Up to 30 Hillsborough College faculty serve as mentors, helping students navigate college and prepare for future opportunities. Philanthropic support makes these life-changing experiences possible.
Student Success Story
Jorge Polanco was a high school dropout who enrolled at Hillsborough College at age 24 and became a HOPE Scholar. Reflecting on his journey, he shared:
